Life Imitates Art
My connection to art history and images of various cultures is a theme throughout my work. One hundred selections from three decades of juxtaposing photographs of contemporary people, found by chance from all walks of life, with their antecedents that I identified in paintings were published in a book entitled “Life Imitates Art” in 2015.
Currently, social issues of global warming and modernization which are destroying habitats upon which wildlife depend has led me to call attention to the beauty and richness of our animal legacy, by drawing portraits of endangered species in pastels and colored pencils from photographs. Art history and my love of animals came together in the four large panels that were commissioned by the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. These are permanently installed at the Harbor Animal Care in San Pedro, CA.
